Access to the power and administrative center of New Delhi is now going to be easier. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) started the construction work on the Central Secretariat Metro Station under the Central Vista Corridor from Wednesday. After completion, this station will become an important triple interchange hub of Delhi Metro, where Magenta, Yellow and Violet lines will connect to each other.
This project is part of DMRC’s Phase-5 (A), under which the Magenta Line is being extended from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar inspected the construction work of the Central Secretariat Metro Station as part of the upcoming Central Vista Metro Corridor. After the inspection, Khattar said, “This is a historic moment. It will connect many parts of Delhi. It is about a 9 kilometer line. It is going to benefit lakhs of passengers.”
9 stations will be in Central Vista Corridor
The approximately 9.9 km long completely underground Central Vista Corridor will have a total of 9 stations (Shivaji Stadium, Yuge-Yugen Bharat, Central Secretariat, Dutva Bhawan, India Gate, War Memorial-High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam and Indraprastha). The biggest feature of this corridor will be the Central Secretariat station, where for the first time 3 metro lines will be connected at one place.
This will make access to Central Vista, Lutyens Delhi, Central Ministries, Parliament Area, Supreme Court, India Gate, National War Memorial and Bharat Mandap easier and faster than before. The government says that this corridor will not just be a new metro line, but will strengthen the public transport backbone of the most important administrative and constitutional area of the country.
This project will directly benefit thousands of government employees, lawyers, tourists and common travelers every day. Besides, the road traffic pressure in the busiest areas of New Delhi is also expected to reduce.
