
Chhattisgarh Weather: Folk beliefs and traditions in rural areas of India are as alive today as they were centuries ago. One such unique scene of folk faith has come to light from Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh, where farmers, worried about lack of sufficient rain, conducted the marriage of a frog and a toad with the accompaniment of a band for a good harvest and relief from drought. Amidst this unique marriage, the Meteorological Department (IMD) has also given great relief to the farmers of the state. After a lull of about three days, monsoon has once again become fully active in Chhattisgarh and heavy to moderate rainfall has been predicted in many parts of the state for the next four days.
This traditional marriage was organized in Khunshi area under Pratappur development block of Surajpur district. According to the villagers, it was not a symbolic formality, but was celebrated like a real marriage. For the wedding, invitation cards (wedding cards) were distributed in all the surrounding villages. On Thursday, a grand procession was taken out with bands and traditional folk songs. After this, frog-frog rounds were conducted amid Hindu rituals and Vedic chanting.

Organizing committee member Ramnath Singh said that whenever drought-like conditions arise in the area, this ancient tradition is followed. The villagers have an unwavering belief that the marriage of a frog and a frog pleases Indra, the god of rain. After the completion of the marriage, a special puja was performed and a mass feast (Bhandara) was organized for the entire area.
Badra rains 17% less till now
According to the latest data of the Meteorological Department, Chhattisgarh has recorded slightly less rainfall than expected this season. An average of 239.2 mm rainfall has been recorded in the state from June 1 to July 8. However, normally there should have been 286.7 mm rainfall during this period. If seen from this perspective, till now the state has received 17 percent less rainfall than normal.
Meteorologists say that there will be light to moderate rain in different parts of the state for the next four days. Along with this, a warning has also been issued about lightning along with thunder at one or two places in North Chhattisgarh.

How will the weather be today and what are the future prospects?
The Meteorological Department has predicted mainly cloudy sky and thundershowers in the entire state today. The maximum temperature in the capital Raipur is expected to be around 31 degrees and the minimum temperature will be around 25 degrees Celsius.
Earlier, due to torrential rains on July 4, 5 and 6, a flood-like situation had arisen in many low-lying areas of Raipur, Durg, Bhilai, Dhamtari and Gariaband and the rivers were in spate. The problem of waterlogging still persists in many residential colonies. The Meteorological Department has warned that due to continuous rain in the next four days, the problem of waterlogging in these areas may once again become serious.
