CAG audit of power companies for the first time in Delhi, Rs 38 thousand crores will be revealed

July 2, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Delhi DISCOMs CAG audit: For the first time, CAG will audit electricity distribution companies in Delhi. Delhi government has issued orders for CAG audit of discoms. Delhi Energy Minister Ashish Sood said that the formal order of CAG audit of Delhi’s discoms is a historic step towards transparency, accountability and good governance in Delhi’s power sector. More importantly, it is a victory for every electricity consumer and every honest taxpayer of Delhi.

Sood said that after the privatization of the power sector, many financial decisions, special arrangements and continuously increasing liabilities could not be publicly scrutinized for years. The previous Aam Aadmi Party government had worked to protect the system instead of checking it. The work which they could not do in ten years, our government has started in a few months.

38 thousand crores will be revealed

Sood also said that the people of Delhi have every right to know how the Regulatory Assets worth about Rs 38,000 crore kept on increasing and who got its benefits, while the burden fell on the people of Delhi. CAG audit will bring out all these facts. The Energy Minister further said that this is not just an investigation into the work of the previous government but this audit is the foundation stone of comprehensive reforms in Delhi’s power sector. Its real success will be determined by the reform measures, more effective regulation and stronger accountability that follow.

We are committed to transparency in the power sector

Sood further said that I want to say with complete clarity that no honest taxpayer of Delhi will be forced to pay the price of someone’s personal interests, special favors or wrong decisions. It is the responsibility of our government to keep every rupee of public money safe. Our government has completed the entire process in accordance with the law and with complete transparency. Now we expect full cooperation from all the discoms. With the blessings of the people of Delhi, we are committed to making the power sector a transparent, accountable and completely working system in the public interest.
