June 13, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Indian businessman Dr Shamsheer Vayalil announced a humanitarian relief program of ₹2.6 crore for the families affected by the Dubai road accident. This help will provide assistance to the families of seven employees killed and nine injured in the Emirates Road accident. This includes emergency travel, accommodation arrangements and help in children’s education. NRI entrepreneur, philanthropist and Chairman and CEO of Burjeel Holdings, Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil has extended a helping hand to the victims.

This help will be extended to all the people affected by the accident. Under the programme, the families of the seven killed will be given ₹26 lakh per family, while ₹47 lakh has been allocated to help the nine injured, depending on their medical and recovery needs. The package also includes ₹18 lakh for emergency travel and accommodation arrangements for family members and ₹13 lakh to help in the education of children of affected families.

These assistance packages are designed to provide immediate relief as well as help secure the future of children and families who have lost the main earning member of their family. Given the long-term impact of this tragedy, special attention has been paid to families with young and dependent children.

Support for all affected families

This assistance is being provided following reports that a minibus carrying employees of a Dubai-based company was involved in the accident. This vehicle had collided with the rear of a truck that was stopped due to a technical fault on the road. The victims included employees from India, Sri Lanka and Nepal. The seven people killed included 6 Indians and one Sri Lankan citizen. Of the Indians killed, three were from Uttar Pradesh and three from Telangana. Of the nine injured, eight are Indian citizens (including two from Kerala), while one is a Nepali citizen. Five of the injured have been discharged from the hospital, while three Indians are undergoing treatment in different hospitals.

The Indian Consulate in Dubai has been informed of this assistance to help coordinate with the affected Indian families and ensure that assistance reaches the families and injured persons. Dr. Shamsheer said, “Although we are coordinating with the Indian Consulate regarding the affected Indian families, given our shared humanity, assistance will be extended to all those affected by this tragedy.” Expressing deep sorrow over this tragic incident, he said that this incident is a painful reminder of the sacrifice of those workers who stay away from their families to feed them.

‘Standing with the affected family in this difficult time’

Dr Shamsheer said, “This is a heart-breaking tragedy that has affected families from many countries. These were workers who came here with hopes, responsibilities and dreams to provide for their families. No amount of financial assistance can compensate for the lives lost, but we hope this assistance will provide some relief to the bereaved families and help the injured recover. We stand with every affected family in this difficult time.”

The emergency assistance provided by Dr. Shamsheer in similar tragedies has proved helpful to the affected families in the past also. After the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, he provided an assistance of ₹6 crore to the families of medical students killed and injured in that tragedy.
