A buffalo in Chittoor district needed police protection. A fair was organized in Thimmireddypallil village of Puthalapattu mandal, in which a large number of people were coming from far and wide to participate. The village elders, in consultation with the scholars, had fixed the time for organizing Ammavari Jatara in the village. It was decided to sacrifice a buffalo as part of the fair and the villagers together bought the buffalo for Rs 50,000.
This is how animal sacrifice was postponed
However, after getting information about this, three youths of the village opposed the animal sacrifice and lodged a complaint with the pictures of the buffalo to the Union Animal Husbandry Ministry through email. On receiving the complaint, the central officials informed the district administration. As per the orders of the District Collector, Puthalapattu Tehsildar Uday Satish reached the village and took steps to stop animal sacrifice. Also, on the orders of District SP Tushar Dudi, the police ensured security arrangements in the village.
Heavy police force deployed at the fair
Officials and police kept vigil throughout the night in the area where the buffalo were tied, and thus prevented the animal sacrifice from taking place. However, the villagers say that they wanted to perform this sacrifice for the welfare of the village after almost 40 years, but due to the interference of the authorities, this event was stopped. Later, the villagers organized Kumbh in the traditional way and performed puja. Till the end of the fair, the police maintained security in the village and ensured that no animal sacrifice was carried out.
