Now filmmaker Sunil Darshan has shared many things regarding this relationship.

Sunil Darshan recently told in an interview that he had seen Abhishek and Karishma closely during the film ‘Ha, Maine Bhi Pyar Kiya Hai’. By then the marriage of both was considered almost fixed. The maker said that their love had started even before the shooting of the film ‘Ek Rishta’ started.
Were surprised by the decision of marriage
Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor got engaged in the year 2002, but their relationship broke up after some time. Filmmaker Sunil Darshan told that on the day the engagement was broken, he was coincidentally present at Karishma’s house. According to him, no one from outside can fully understand what both of them went through after the breakup of their relationship. He told that after some time Karisma went to Bangkok and then suddenly he got the news of her marriage with Sanjay Kapoor, which surprised him too.
Bollywood’s most talked about relationship
According to him, there were frequent arguments between the two and tension was clearly visible in their relationship. However, he also believed that an outsider cannot fully understand what is going on inside any relationship. The relationship between Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor was the most talked about relationship of Bollywood at its time. After the engagement was broken, both of them decided to move ahead in their respective lives.

Karishma got married in 2003
Abhishek married Aishwarya Rai in 2007, while Karisma Kapoor married Sanjay Kapoor in 2003. Later, the relationship between Karishma and Sanjay also broke down and both of them got divorced. Sunil Darshan also refused to comment much on Karisma Kapoor’s marriage with Sanjay Kapoor. He said that now Sanjay is no more in this world and he has children, hence only Karishma has the right to speak about this. However, he told that Karishma had known Sanjay’s family since childhood and after marriage, she had tried her best to adapt herself to the new environment.
Sanjay suffered a heart attack
Filmmaker Sunil Darshan believes that Karisma could not become completely comfortable in the environment of Delhi, because she was already a big Bollywood star and wanted to live a normal family life after marriage. Karisma Kapoor was married to Sanjay, they both have two children, but they got divorced in 2016. Later Sanjay Kapoor married Priya Sachdev. He died of a heart attack during a polo match in England in June 2025.
