Nepal’s Prime Minister Balen Shah has suffered a major setback in the matter of border dispute with India. Actually, citing the Sugauli Treaty, the Prime Minister of Nepal had sought help from Britain, which Britain has rejected. Britain said that the issue between India and Nepal is bilateral. London will not interfere in this. This blow has come to Balen Shah at a time when the Prime Minister of Nepal is in trouble even in his own home due to the border dispute with India.
The Kathmandu Post According to Balen Shah, Shah’s chief advisor Kumar Byanjankar had recently met British Ambassador Rob Fenn in the capital. Byanjankar said that Britain has also been a party to the Sugauli Treaty regarding the border between Nepal and India. In such a situation, Britain should come forward to resolve the border dispute.
Britain refused to help
In the year 1816, the Sugauli Agreement was signed between the East India Company and Nepal. In this, a decision was taken regarding the border survey between the two countries. Nepal is not ready to accept this agreement. He says that in this agreement, some lands of Kathmandu have been given to India’s share. Kalapani is a prime example of this.
According to the report, the Prime Minister’s Chief Advisor Byanjankar told the British Prime Minister that you were the main party at that time, hence you should speak on this issue. If you take this initiative then an agreement can be reached between Nepal and India.
On this, British Ambassador Fenn said that this issue is a bilateral matter related to Nepal and India and Britain would not like to interfere in it. After this the Prime Minister’s advisors returned.
Balen badly surrounded on border dispute
While speaking in the Nepal Parliament (House of Representatives) on Sunday (May 31), Balen Shah gave a controversial statement regarding the border dispute. Balen said that when I became the Prime Minister, I came to know that Nepal has also occupied some lands of India. The opposition Communist Party has termed Balen’s statement as treason.
At the same time, Nepal Foreign Ministry has issued a statement calling this statement wrong. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, some farmers of Nepal do farming in India. At the same time, opposition parties say that the Prime Minister of Nepal should apologize for this statement.
