
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is on Bengal tour. On Sunday (July 19), he held an important meeting with senior officials of the state. During this, he reviewed the law and order of the state. It is being told that many senior officials including State Chief Secretary Manoj Aggarwal and Director General of Police Siddhanath Gupta attended this meeting. This meeting was held in South Kolkata
This meeting of Amit Shah took place just a few weeks after the West Bengal Public Security and Anti-Social Activities Control Act was passed. Under this strict law, the state government has been given wide powers to deal with activities like organized crime, extortion, illegal mining, cyber crime and disturbing public order.
Review of security arrangements on India-Bangladesh border
Earlier, on Saturday (July 18), Union Minister Amit Shah had reviewed the security arrangements on the India-Bangladesh border in North Bengal. Along with this, he also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth Rs 77.06 crore for the Border Security Force (BSF).
Border with Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan
Amit Shah is on a three-day tour of West Bengal. During Mamata Banerjee’s TMC government, he had several times expressed concern over infiltration in the state, law and order situation and open border with Bangladesh. Because a large part of the Bengal border was unfenced. He had said that fencing has still not been installed on a large part of the border in Bengal. West Bengal has a 2,217 km long border with Bangladesh, and also shares borders with Nepal and Bhutan.
Visited BSF border post
According to the Home Ministry, on Saturday Amit Shah visited a BSF border post near Siliguri. During this time he also inspected indigenous and state-of-the-art border security technologies. These also include a radio-based system, which immediately alerts security personnel by broadcasting a pre-recorded message if the border fence is tampered with.
The Union Minister also laid the foundation stone of three BSF projects costing Rs 47 crore through digital medium. Apart from this, he also laid the foundation stone for construction of 4 km long border fencing at a cost of Rs 30 crore on recently acquired land for two border posts in Bengal.
