‘Boys and girls run away, then…’, debate broke out on Governor Anandiben Patel’s statement, know who said what

July 8, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel has said such a thing, due to which not only is she in the headlines but has also started a political uproar. In fact, Anandiben Patel said on Tuesday that sometimes boys and girls run away and then the girls become pregnant and have children. Later, neither they nor their parents accept him. Then the government takes their responsibility. Governor Anandiben Patel, who went to Lucknow to attend the AKTU convocation, spoke openly to the students. He said that you all have bravery. Don’t do such a thing.

Talking about his son, the Governor said, ‘I had sent my son to study in Bangalore. I told him that if he likes any girl from Bangalore, let him know and we will get him married, but he did not like anyone. If you have liked then first make a career, become self-reliant, then get married. I do not oppose love marriage, but due to the condition of women… they were educated and took responsibility.

The Governor told an inspiring story

Anandiben Patel has also mentioned the incident of gang rape of a girl and said that if we had compassion, such incidents would never have happened. During this, he also shared an inspirational story with the students. He told that soon after birth, a newborn girl was abandoned by her parents. Later, a vegetable seller adopted him, raised him like his family and educated him. Today the same girl has become an IAS officer. He said that both these incidents present two different pictures of the society and we need to seriously consider our values and sensibilities.

SP MP reacted to the Governor’s statement

At the same time, SP MP Virendra Singh has given his reaction on the statement of Governor Anandiben Patel. He said, ‘Anandiben Patel is a woman. She is the Governor of our Uttar Pradesh. It does not look good on their lips to use derogatory words against our girls in this manner. There are many people in the society who are very good and also very wrong. So we should set such an example as per our culture, which is inspiring for girls. Therefore we do not support his point.
