June 3, 2026 by Uma Shankar

A big initiative is going to be taken in the country to further strengthen the artillery of the Indian Army. Now landmines for the Indian Army will not be made by humans, but by advanced robotic technology. Under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ campaign in the defense sector, ‘Balu Forge Industries Limited’ has got a big contract for the supply of 30,000 indigenous 152mm artillery shells. Under this special deal, the supply of balls is going to start from this month i.e. June 2026.

According to the information, these bullets will be manufactured in the new ‘Greenfield’ factory of Balu Forge located in Belgaum, Karnataka. The biggest feature of this plant is its state-of-the-art technology.

100% indigenous and automatic: This production line is completely automated (unmanned), that is, there will be no direct involvement of humans here.

Accuracy and Speed: Due to robotic technology, there will be amazing precision and tremendous speed in the manufacturing of these ammunition. This will make large scale production possible without any mistakes.

Preparation for increasing demand: In view of the increasing need for larger caliber ammunition, the company is working on further increasing the capacity of this robotic line.

Plan to make more than 1 lakh shells

This initial order of 30,000 rounds is just a beginning. In future, there are preparations to make more than 1 lakh advanced shells under this scheme. The main objective of this strategy is to ensure continuous and reliable supply of high-capacity ammunition to the Indian Army on all sensitive fronts such as the western and northern borders.

Company has International NATO Certification

Sand forge has established its influence not only in the country but also at the global level. The company has NATO certification, which proves that its stringent quality controls and the quality of metal are of international standards. Due to this certification, the company has the ability to supply defense equipment to NATO countries also.

New ‘turning point’ in defense sector

The company believes that this order will further strengthen the vision of making India self-reliant in the defense sector. With this fully automatic shell production line, the company is now venturing into the field of advanced defense materials through its subsidiary ‘Quantum Energetics’.
