Taking major action in the famous municipal recruitment scam of West Bengal, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a supplementary prosecution complaint (charge sheet) in the special court of Kolkata under PMLA against former minister and former MLA Sujit Bose, IAS officer Jyotishman Chattopadhyay, Samudra Bose and others. According to ED, this investigation was started on the basis of FIR registered by CBI on the instructions of Calcutta High Court. In this case, Sujit Bose was arrested on 11 May 2026 and is currently in judicial custody.

Investigation revealed that when Sujit Bose When he was the Vice Chairman of South Dumdum Municipality, he recommended 340 candidates, out of which 284 people got the job. According to municipality records, a total of 343 recruitments were made between 2014 and 2022.

Money lost through fake sales

ED alleges that to make the amount of crores of rupees received in exchange for providing job appear legitimate, it was first shown as cash sale in a restaurant named ‘Chinese Cuisine’ owned by Sujit Bose.

Investigation also found that even during the Covid lockdown, huge cash was deposited in the restaurant accounts. After this, this money was used to expand the hotel and banquet business. Got many flats in exchange of getting jobs

ED has also raised questions on the role of IAS officer Jyotishman Chattopadhyay in its investigation. The agency alleges that while being the local body director, he bypassed the rules and approved 29 additional appointments in South Dumdum Municipality by terming it as a “special case”, even though the necessary government documents were not available for this.
