Himachal Local Body Polls: There are assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh next year. Before this, municipal corporation elections were held in the state. In this, BJP won a landslide victory. Bharatiya Janata Party has hoisted the flag on three out of four seats. These results, which came before the assembly elections to be held in the year 2027, are being considered very important. With this victory, the morale of BJP has increased a lot in Himachal.
This was the first major urban election for the Congress after returning to power in 2022, where it has faced such a defeat. These results have raised big questions on the hold of Congress in the cities and the internal working methods of the party. After this defeat, Congress will now need to rectify its shortcomings and re-strengthen its team at the grassroots level.
Congress’s shame remains on one seat out of four
According to BJP, these results clearly indicate that the people of the state want the Chief Minister. Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu That Congress is not happy with the government. CM Sukhu also accepted this defeat. He said that he did not expect to lose like this. He said that despite having five MLAs in Solan, we could not win even a single civic seat there. We definitely made some mistakes. We will review it. Let us tell you that BJP got a landslide victory in Dharamshala, Mandi, Solan. Congress could save its face only in Palampur.
Claim of winning 190 seats in Zilla Parishad elections
Congress failed to win the elections not only in the Municipal Corporation but also in many other local bodies of the district. After securing a landslide victory in three out of the four municipal corporations, BJP on Monday also claimed a massive victory in the Zilla Parishad elections. BJP claimed that it has won more than 190 out of total 251 seats in the Zilla Parishad elections.
Why do the results of these civic elections matter?
In fact, out of the 53 urban local bodies in which elections were held, there was a direct contest between BJP and Congress in only 4 municipal corporations (Solan, Mandi, Dharamshala and Palampur). Of these, BJP won 3 seats. BJP won 10 out of 17 wards in Solan. In Mandi, 12 out of 14 seats went to BJP’s account. BJP won 11 out of 17 seats in Dharamshala. Congress’s shame was saved in Palampur. Won 11 out of 15 wards.
CM Sukhu said that if all 53 urban bodies are looked at, overall the performance of Congress was better. Congress captured a total of 29 bodies, while BJP won 21 and the contest was tied on 3. At the same time, BJP said that even though Congress was ahead in total numbers, where there was a direct contest between the two parties, the people loved BJP.
Let us tell you that the elections of urban local bodies including Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats were held on May 17, while the elections of Gram Panchayats, Pradhan and Deputy Pradhan, Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad members were held in three phases on 26, 28 and 30 May.
