BJP targeted Sonia Gandhi, asked- Is Congress giving ‘cover fire’ to Hamas and Hezbollah?

June 27, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday attacked Congress leader Sonia Gandhi over her article on the Gaza conflict, alleging that she has misrepresented India’s position. BJP questioned whether Congress is indirectly providing cover fire to terrorist organizations like Hezbollah and Hamas.

The ruling party said India has consistently made its stand clear on the issue of Gaza and Palestine, provided humanitarian assistance and voted in favor of UN resolutions demanding a ceasefire.

BJP surrounded on Sonia Gandhi’s article

This reaction of BJP came after Sonia Gandhi’s article published in The Indian Express on Saturday, in which she had alleged that the silence and inaction of the Modi government on the genocide being carried out by Israel in Gaza is not only morally condemnable, but also incomprehensible from the point of view of national interest. Congress parliamentary party chief Sonia Gandhi claimed that India has isolated itself from its traditional allies – Palestine, Iran and Greater West Asia, distanced itself from global public opinion and given Pakistan the opportunity to play the role of mediator. Reacting sharply to the article, BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Sudhanshu Trivedi alleged that Gandhi was trying to woo radical votes.

Why did Congress remain silent on the attacks on Israel?

He also raised the question as to why Congress, which created ruckus over Gaza, remained silent on the attacks on Israel in October 2023. Sudhanshu Trivedi posted on

He asked, the country wants to know and Congress should clarify this: By remaining silent on the October 2023 massacre and creating ruckus over Gaza, is Congress indirectly giving ‘cover fire’ to terrorist organizations like Hezbollah and Hamas through this article?

Sonia Gandhi’s misunderstanding

Sudhanshu Trivedi claimed that Sonia Gandhi has the misconception that by expressing grief over Gaza, Congress will overcome the disappointment of being out of power or will be able to reduce the influence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He asked that when Iran itself has invited PM Modi, what could be a better proof of good relations with Iran?

Sudhanshu Trivedi also accused Congress of remaining silent on the killings of Hindus in Bangladesh and Pakistan. Another BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala alleged that this once again proved that vote bank politics is more important for Congress than foreign policy.

trying to hide the real truth

He said in a video statement that Sonia Gandhi is trying to mislead people and hide the real truth through her article. The truth is that India has on many occasions given its clear stand on the issue of Gaza and Palestine and has also provided concrete humanitarian assistance.

Palestine’s highest civilian honor to PM Modi

Poonawala said that India’s stand in support of the UN resolutions related to ceasefire is clearly visible. He also mentioned that PM Modi has also been awarded the highest civilian honor of Palestine. Referring to PM’s diplomatic initiatives, he said that Modi has been successful in maintaining equal relations even with countries standing face to face in global conflicts.

He said that PM Modi is the only leader who has simultaneously maintained dialogue with Israel and Palestine, America and Russia, Ukraine, Western countries and Iran. This is not a policy of non-alignment, but of engagement with all. Poonawalla also said that PM Modi has received more than 30 highest civilian honors from different countries of the world, a large number of which are honors given by Muslim majority countries.

Vote bank politics even in foreign policy

He alleged that Congress governments never developed relations with Israel because of their vote bank politics. Poonawala alleged, the problem is that Congress always does vote bank politics even in foreign policy. Because of this politics it never developed relations with Israel. This same party constantly speaks in favor of Hamas, praises it, gives it a platform and expresses sympathy for it, but till date it has not clearly condemned the terrorist attacks on Israel.

Silence on Hindu issue in Dhaka

The BJP spokesperson alleged that Congress raises its voice for the Muslims of Gaza and Rafah, but remains silent on the issue of Hindus in Dhaka. He said, this shows that the foreign policy of Congress is also governed by the mathematics of vote bank politics. Sonia Gandhi said in her article that the spirit of Indian nationalism demands that India raise its voice in favor of the Palestinians whose children have been brutally targeted.

He said that also from the point of view of national interest, India should respond by supporting the global public opinion against the genocidal actions of the Israeli regime in Gaza and the brutal displacement and eviction of millions of Palestinian families in the West Bank.
