
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced the state presidents of 4 states and union territories on Thursday. The command of Delhi state has been handed over to Union Minister Harsh Malhotra while Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon has been appointed as the state president of Punjab. Archana Gupta has been made the BJP president of Haryana state.
Union Minister Harsh Malhotra is a big name in Delhi politics. He is the son of former Union Minister Vijay Kumar Malhotra and himself is currently the Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Ministry of Corporate Affairs. He will replace Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva. Harsh comes from Punjabi community. He has a special identity among the people of Bania and Punjabi community in Delhi.
Harsh Malhotra was elected MP for the first time from East Delhi Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He was then given the ticket in place of former cricketer and MP Gautam Gambhir. In the elections, he defeated Kuldeep Kumar Monu of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
When the government was formed at the Center for the third time, PM Narendra Modi included him in his cabinet. Before this, he had been the mayor of East Delhi Nagar Nigar. He was the Mayor of the erstwhile East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) during 2015 to 2016. He was elected councilor for the first time from Welcome Ward of Delhi in the year 2012.
