Big relief to small businessmen and restaurant owners: Now 10 KG commercial cylinders will be available!

July 13, 2026 by Uma Shankar

India’s government oil marketing companies like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum are now planning to make a big change in the commercial LPG market. According to a report, oil companies are now preparing to introduce 10 kg lightweight LPG cylinders for commercial use. Till now, cylinders of 19 kg or heavier have mainly dominated the commercial sector. In such a situation, this new step of oil companies can prove to be a game-changer for small traders, restaurant owners and street vendors. Let us also tell you what kind of report has come out.

10 kg commercial cylinder may arrive soon

According to TOI report, government oil marketing companies are preparing to introduce small commercial gas cylinders of 10 kg each to provide relief to small vendors and restaurant owners. According to the report, composite cylinders made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) can be sold at commercial LPG rates through gas agencies and select retail outlets. The proposed scheme is expected to benefit migrant workers, tenants, students, street vendors, cafes and food kiosks who need LPG but lack space to store large 19-kg commercial cylinders.

Available in 5 and 2 kg

The report said that light weight cylinders are already available to domestic customers in limited quantities under different brand names – such as HPCL’s HP Gas Ojas, IndianOil’s Indane Xtralight and BPCL’s Bharatgas Lite. Currently, OMCs sell 19-kg, 5-kg and 2-kg cylinders for commercial users and users without domestic LPG connections. Commercial LPG is much more expensive than domestic cooking gas. In Delhi, a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder costs Rs 942, while a 19-kg commercial cylinder costs Rs 2,930. According to the report, the price of 5-kg commercial cylinder is Rs 808.50.

10 percent light body

The 10-kg composite cylinder is manufactured using advanced composite technology and has a three-layer structure. It is about 50 percent lighter than traditional steel LPG cylinders, making it easier to transport and use. The report also said that unlike steel cylinders, the composite version is easier to transport to upper floors. Its transparent body also allows customers to see the quantity of LPG left without the need for a separate gauge, helping them plan refills better.
