In today’s time, Aadhar card has become the most important part of our identity. From opening a bank account to availing benefits of government schemes, it is required in every financial and administrative work. In such a situation, it is very important for this document to be completely updated. If you have not made any changes or updated latest information in your Aadhaar for a long time, then there is a very relieving news for you. Providing convenience to crores of citizens of the country, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for updating free documents in Aadhaar by a full year. The online service which was going to be paid from June 15, 2026, will now remain completely free till June 14, 2027.
direct opportunity to save money
UIDAI is constantly asking citizens to update their documents. Especially those people whose card was made years ago and they never updated it. Keeping your proof of identity and address updated keeps the government database accurate. The biggest relief is that you can update documents related to your identity (Proof of Identity) and address (Proof of Address) online without spending a single rupee. However, you have to keep in mind that this free facility is available only on myAadhaar portal. If you get the same work done by going to a physical centre, you will have to pay the fixed fee.
Old app will be closed soon
Not only the deadlines, but also big changes are taking place on the digital infrastructure front. UIDAI has made it clear that their old mobile application ‘mAadhaar’ will be discontinued soon. Now users will have to download a completely new and advanced ‘Aadhaar’ app. On this new platform, users have been given the option of more secure QR code based data sharing. Additionally, privacy controls have been enhanced to make using digital identities more secure and convenient in everyday life.
Update in few minutes sitting at home
This entire technical process has been made very easy for the common people. First of all you have to go to myAadhaar portal. Enter your Aadhaar number there and login securely with the help of OTP received on the registered mobile number. You will see your current profile on the screen. Check your identity and address carefully. If everything is perfect, proceed by clicking on the ‘I verify that the above details are correct’ option. After this, select the option of your identity card from the dropdown menu and upload the soft copy of the relevant document. Similarly upload address proof also. Keep in mind that the size of the file should be less than 2 MB, and it should also be in JPEG, PNG or PDF format. Complete the process by giving your consent.
It is mandatory to go to the center for these changes
Online facility has definitely made many things easier, but due to security reasons, some important work is still done only at the enrollment center. If you want to make any changes in your biometric data i.e. fingerprint, iris scan or your photograph, then this is not possible sitting at home. Apart from this, to get correction in your name, date of birth (DOB), gender or registered mobile number, you will have to go to your nearest Aadhaar Seva Centre.
