July 3, 2026 by Uma Shankar

There is news of great relief for Aadhar card holders. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has started the facility to update email ID in the new Aadhaar App. The most important thing is that from July 1, 2026, this service will remain completely free for the next 6 months. With this, people will not need to go to Aadhaar Seva Kendra to update their emails.

Work will be done in minutes through mobile app

Through the new facility, Aadhaar holders will be able to update their email ID using Aadhaar App on their smartphones. Earlier one had to go to Aadhar Seva Kendra for this work, but now the entire process will be online. This will save both time and money. UIDAI says that this step has been taken with the aim of providing more convenient and digital services to the people.

You will get many benefits of updating your email.

By entering the correct email ID in Aadhaar, users will be able to get security related alerts, updates and other important information directly on email. Apart from this, it will also be easy to use many online services related to Aadhaar in future. If ever any change is made in Aadhaar or a facility like biometric lock is used, then information about the same will also be available through email.

Many facilities are available in the new Aadhaar App

UIDAI has recently launched the new Aadhaar App, in which many modern features have been added. Users can now update mobile number and address, lock or unlock biometrics, download e-Aadhaar and even share limited Aadhaar information securely through QR code as per the need through the app. This will also reduce the need to give photocopy of Aadhaar to a great extent.

The facility will be free for six months

According to UIDAI, this facility of email update will be available without any charge for six months from July 1, 2026. At present no announcement has been made on whether fees will be charged after this or not. Therefore, those who have not yet registered their email ID in Aadhaar or want to change the old email can avail this free facility. Experts say that information like mobile number and email in Aadhaar should always be kept updated, so that one can get full benefit of all digital services and security related facilities.
