BJP’s ally Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party has claimed 32 seats for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections 2027. SBSP is especially eyeing Azamgarh division (bastion of Samajwadi Party). The party has claimed Mehnagar, Didarganj and Atraulia seats. SBSP national general secretary Arun Rajbhar said that he himself will contest from Atraulia seat. He claimed that the support of SBSP (Om Prakash Rajbhar’s vote bank) played a big role in the number of seats SP got in Azamgarh region in the last elections. Arun Rajbhar said that the seat-sharing arrangement will be decided between the NDA leadership and the SBSP leadership at the right time and with mutual consent.
Taking aim at the Samajwadi Party (SP), Arun Rajbhar claimed that in the last assembly elections, SP had got more seats mainly because of the support base of SBSP president Om Prakash Rajbhar in that area. In the 2022 elections, SBSP was in alliance with SP and contested 19 seats, winning 6 of them. However, just a few months after the results, Rajbhar broke the alliance with SP and rejoined the NDA.
Elections were contested on eight seats
Earlier in the 2017 elections in the state, SBSP had contested eight seats as part of the NDA and won four seats, including the seat of party chief Om Prakash Rajbhar. Arun Rajbhar claimed that this time SP will be “taught a lesson” in eastern Uttar Pradesh as their preparations seem to be focused on Azamgarh, which is considered to be the SP’s strongest bastion.
Om Prakash Rajbhar, who is currently the Panchayati Raj Minister of Uttar Pradesh. They are continuously targeting Akhilesh Yadav before the 2027 assembly elections. He has challenged SP’s hold in Azamgarh and took a jibe at the party chief over the “MY” i.e. Muslim-Yadav social alliance in the area.
Political experts say that Om Prakash Rajbhar seems to be at the forefront of NDA’s efforts whose aim is to reduce the impact of Yadav’s PDA (backward, Dalit, minority) narrative through the narrative of Hindutva.
