Samajwadi Party MLA Kamal Akhtar in Uttar Pradesh Assembly has resigned from the post of Chief Whip of the Legislative Assembly. Party President Akhilesh Yadav has accepted his resignation. Kamal Akhtar is MLA from Kanth seat of Moradabad. This development, which came amid preparations for the Assembly elections 2027, has intensified the political turmoil within the party.
Kamal Akhtar’s resignation is being linked to the changing political equations within the party. According to sources, there were long standing differences between Kamal Akhtar and Ruchi Veera in the politics of Moradabad division. After the recent controversy, the SP President had called both the leaders to the party headquarters in Lucknow and talked to them, but the matter could not be resolved completely.
Kamal Akhtar told the reason for resignation
However, Kamal Akhtar has refused to accept the controversy as the reason for his resignation. He says that he has taken this decision on the instructions of Akhilesh Yadav. Chief Whip was made in 2024
Kamal Akhtar was made the Chief Whip of Samajwadi Party in July 2024. No official statement has been issued yet by the party regarding Kamal Akhtar’s resignation. However, in political circles, this development is being linked to the factionalism of Moradabad region, the influence of senior leaders and the changing balance of power within the party.
Clear message of discipline in the organization
Sources say that the Samajwadi Party leadership wants to give a clear message of discipline in the organization. At a time when the party is working on a strategy to strengthen the PDA (Backward, Dalit and Minority) social equation, the internal tussle may give the opposition an opportunity to launch a political attack.
Meanwhile, there is a strong discussion within the party that a Dalit face can be made the new chief whip. It is believed that by giving this responsibility to a Dalit face, the party can try to further strengthen its PDA social equation. However, no official announcement has been made in this regard yet.
Statement of SP MP Ruchi Veera
After the resignation of Kamal Akhtar, the statement of SP MP from Moradabad Ruchi Veera has come to light. Talking to the media, he said, ‘I had complained to National President Akhilesh Yadav. After which the Speaker has taken action. I thank him. Whatever issue was going on for the past few days, the National President knows better. I had informed them.
She said, ‘I thank and praise the President. The President respects women and works to create discipline in the party. We have to fight BJP and not amongst ourselves. The National President is repeatedly instructing us to participate in the elections. This issue was blown out of proportion by BJP. This is an internal matter of the party, who is appointed and whom is removed.
