Muslim politicians and representatives of Muslim organizations are going to sit together in Delhi on July 24 regarding the current situation in the country. Salman Khurshid, Asaduddin Owaisi, MP Mohibbullah Nadvi and Muslim MPs from other parties will be present in this meeting. Among Muslim organizations, people from Maulana Arshad Madani, Maulana Mahmood Madani, Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamaat-e-Ahl-e-Hadith and All India Muslim Personal Law Board will also be present.
Issues like bulldozers running on mosques and madrassas in different states of the country, challenges faced by Muslims, UCC, closure of madrassas in Uttarakhand will be discussed in this meeting. One agenda of the meeting will also be that ‘If successive governments are proving unsuccessful in providing justice to Muslims, then has the time come for Muslims to take decisions like “non-cooperation moment” i.e. boycott of elections’.
The meeting will be held by IMCR
This meeting will be organized by an organization named IMCR (Indian Muslim for Civil Right). Let us tell you that Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind President Maulana Arshad Madani is continuously raising questions regarding the issues of Muslims. A few days ago he had expressed concern over SIR. He had said that what is happening in the country is not limited to just the revision of voter list, but is becoming a serious matter related to the constitutional rights of the people.
‘Then it will become a question of civil liberties’
He had said, if every citizen is forced to repeatedly prove his citizenship and right to vote, then it will become not just a question of vote but of the Constitution, democracy and civil liberties. SIR has been happening from time to time in the past too but in the present times SIR appears completely different due to its nature, functioning and possible consequences.
Lakhs of citizens are making rounds of offices
He said that lakhs of citizens are making rounds of the offices. Submitting different documents. Are facing mental stress. Still, he is not sure that his name will remain in the voter list. If a constitutional right like voting becomes dependent on government discretion, it would be a very dangerous sign for the democratic system.
