IELTS, TOEFL Exam Racket: Gujarat Police has busted a big gang involved in cheating in IELTS and TOEFL exams in Anand district. This gang used to make dummy students pass the test in place of the students who were going to study abroad. Cyber crime police got secret information about this. On the basis of this, on June 20, a raid was conducted on the second floor of an Arts College in Anand city. A private organization had taken two rooms on rent there.
During the raid, police seized electronic gadgets worth Rs 3.78 lakh from there. These include computer CPU and mobile phone. The mastermind of this gang is still absconding, but the police has arrested one of his employees.
This is how the police destroyed the unique formula of rigging.
Information about this matter was given by DSP J. N. Panchal told the media on Monday. He told that this gang had devised a novel and unique method of fraud. The accused had made a hole in the wall between the examination room and the adjacent room. For this, he had made a setting by connecting the HDMI splitter adapter and the computer. Due to this, the computer screen of the real student taking the exam started appearing exactly the same on the computer in the adjacent room. The real student remained sitting on his seat, but another proxy sitting in the adjacent room used to look at his computer screen and solve all the questions in his place.
One arrested, 2 including mastermind absconding
During the raid, the police arrested Tarunkant Sharma, a resident of South Bopal, Ahmedabad. Rawal and Bundela are still absconding. Officials said that he too will be arrested as soon as possible. The police have registered a case against the three accused under various sections of the BNS as well as section 66D of the Information Technology Act.
Police said that preliminary investigation revealed that even though this place was taken on rent about six months ago, this fraudulent work was going on for about one and a half months. Panchal said the police are examining the data recovered from the seized computers and mobile phones to find out how many candidates appeared for the exam and how much money they paid to get the desired result.
