The Cabinet of Delhi Government, held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has approved the Delhi Building Construction Workers Health Scheme for the health protection of the registered building construction workers and their families of the capital.
Through this scheme, about 10 lakh people including about 2.70 lakh registered construction workers and their families of Delhi will benefit from better and quality health services.
Under this scheme, annual health check-up of workers and their families will not only be done, many medical facilities will also be provided free of cost. The entire process of treatment will be cashless, due to which the workers and their families will not have to bear the financial burden.
Cabinet approves health plan
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Said that the Delhi Government is working with full sensitivity and commitment for the welfare of every section of the society, especially the poor, laborers and deprived families. Construction workers are the foundation of the development of the capital. Strengthening their health and social security is the priority of the government. For this purpose, the Cabinet has approved this important health scheme.
He said that workers involved in construction work have to face conditions like dust from cutting stones, chemicals, excessive noise, heavy machines, general dust and hard labor during their work. Due to this, they remain at risk of silicosis (lung disease), respiratory diseases, skin diseases and other serious health problems. There was a lack of any comprehensive health protection scheme for this category for a long time, keeping this in mind this scheme has been prepared.
The Chief Minister said that under the scheme, free and quality health services will be provided to the registered construction workers and their eligible family members, including spouse, children and parents, through empaneled hospitals and mobile health units. Each registered worker will get treatment facility up to Rs 2 lakh in the empaneled hospitals, while for a family this limit will be up to Rs 10 lakh. The entire process of treatment will be cashless, due to which the workers and their families will not have to bear the financial burden.
Registered workers will get these facilities
Under this scheme, annual health checkup of registered workers and their spouses will also be conducted. Apart from this, free OPD and IPD services, testing and laboratory facilities, emergency medical aid, referral services and health services will be provided through mobile medical units in construction sites and labor intensive areas.
According to the Chief Minister, under the scheme, digital health records of the beneficiaries will be prepared and a modern beneficiary tracking system will be developed, so that monitoring and transparency of services can be ensured. Apart from this, a 24×7 toll-free helpline will also be operated to assist the workers.
Focus on improving the lives of workers and their families
The Chief Minister also said that the scheme is not limited to just providing healthcare, but is a comprehensive social security initiative towards improving the living standards of workers and their families. The government is likely to spend approximately Rs 200 crore annually on this scheme.
The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government has also given top priority to the welfare of the poor, laborers and workers in the unorganized sector. Continuous efforts have been made to provide social and economic security to the working class through many schemes like Ayushman Bharat, e-Shram Portal, Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan. Taking forward the same spirit, Delhi Government is also committed to bring positive changes in the lives of the workers.
