The Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, headed by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, presented its action taken report on the future of India-Bangladesh relations in Parliament. The committee recommended India to continue its policy of support to a democratic, stable, peaceful and inclusive Bangladesh. Emphasis was laid on maintaining continuous diplomatic dialogue with all political parties, civil society and other stakeholders of Bangladesh.
The committee recommended strengthening Track-2 diplomacy, soft power, media dialogue and AI-based strategic communication mechanisms to deal with anti-India propaganda. Along with this, it was recommended to increase educational, cultural and people-to-people contacts to pass on the shared heritage of the 1971 liberation war to the new generation. It was suggested to regularize the joint commissions and secretary level meetings between India and Bangladesh and to expedite the work of pending boundary determination.
Recommendation to further strengthen regional cooperation
Along with this, the committee also recommended further strengthening connectivity, trade and regional cooperation through BIMSTEC. On the other hand, PM Modi on Thursday discussed with a group of senior ministers the ways to maintain the supply chain without interruption despite the current global security situation and ongoing conflicts in different areas.
Who attended the meeting?
According to PTI, government sources say that Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and special invitees attended the Cabinet Committee (CCS) meeting chaired by the Prime Minister. It is believed that the ongoing global conflicts, their impact on security and the resulting disruptions in India’s import and supply chains were discussed in detail in the meeting.
According to sources, in the 2-hour meeting held in the Parliament House complex, the safety of Indian citizens and maritime personnel in conflict areas was also reviewed in detail. Ministers gave presentations about their respective ministries. Gave information about the steps taken to ensure uninterrupted import of all goods including petroleum, natural gas and fertilizers. Sources said that the global political situation was also discussed in the meeting. This meeting was called at very short notice.
