CBI Special Court, Chennai has sentenced underworld don Chhota Rajan alias Vijaya Kadam, Rajendra and Nana to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment in the case of obtaining passports on the basis of fake documents. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 55 thousand on him. Chhota Rajan was found guilty of cheating, forgery, cheating by personation and obtaining a passport by giving false documents. At present he is lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, where he is already serving life imprisonment in another case.
What is the whole matter?
CBI Had registered this case on 19 March 2002. During investigation, it was alleged that Chhota Rajan had got the Indian passport made on the basis of fake documents by cheating the Regional Passport Office, Chennai.
Investigation revealed that he had applied for a passport in the name “Vijaya Kadam”. For this, he had submitted many fake documents including school transfer certificate, ration card, demand draft (DD).
CBI investigation also revealed that the person who took the passport in the name “Vijaya Kadam” was actually Rajendra alias Nana alias Chhota Rajan, father Sadashiv, resident of Mumbai. Adopting a fake identity, he submitted fake documents related to age and address and obtained the passport by passing them off as genuine.
Charge sheet was filed in 2004
After completion of the investigation of the case, CBI filed a charge sheet against Chhota Rajan on 22 January 2004. After a long hearing, now the CBI court of Chennai has convicted him and ordered 7 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 55 thousand.
