Big blow to Türkiye-Azerbaijan together, Russia played in Armenia

June 8, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Russia has given a big blow to Türkiye and Azerbaijan in the elections in Armenia. In fact, Pashinyan’s party could not get a two-thirds majority in the elections in Armenia, due to which now Armenia’s relations with Azerbaijan and Türkiye will not be normal. Pashinyan’s party is considered anti-Russian. To stop Pashinyan, Russia had put all its strength into the elections in Armenia.

News agency reuters According to , Pashinyan’s party has got 49 percent votes in the Armenia elections. Whereas the Russia-backed party got 37 percent votes. Pashinyan is considered a US-backed leader.

Relations with Türkiye-Azerbaijan will not improve

Azerbaijan and Türkiye are neighboring countries of Armenia. Before 2023, Azerbaijan and Armenia were fighting a war over the border. Türkiye was with Azerbaijan, due to which Armenia suffered a crushing defeat. In the end, at the insistence of America, Armenia reached an agreement with Azerbaijan.

Pashinyan’s party needed a two-thirds majority to abide by this agreement and increase trade with Türkiye. However, the party got less than 50 percent votes in the elections. Last time Pashinyan’s party got 54 percent votes.

Big question- Why is Armenia important?

Armenia shares its border with countries like Türkiye, Iran, Azerbaijan. Due to its location between Europe and Asia, its importance increases even more. Armenia was earlier a country close to Russia, but after 2023 it changed sides.

In the Middle East, countries like Syria have already slipped from the hands of Russia. Now if Armenia goes completely out of its hands then Iran’s tension may increase. Because, Iran and Armenia are border states. Russia also wants to keep Turkey at bay by strengthening its hold in Armenia. Türkiye is a NATO member.

According to Russian media Interfax, the opposition parties in this country with a population of 3 lakhs have gathered votes to enter the Parliament. In the coming time, Pashinyan’s party will definitely form a government, but there will be strong pressure from the opposition.
