The central government has taken major action in the oxytocin injection case. The government has canceled the licenses of Jackson Laboratories’ manufacturing units in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. This action has been taken after a joint investigation by CDSCO and the state drug regulator. The investigation claims to have found many flaws in the medicine manufacturing rules (GMP).
In fact, in the case of death of mothers in Rajasthan, the action has intensified after the name of the company’s Oxytocin injection came to light. In this matter, the Central Government has asked for a detailed report of the case from the Rajasthan Government. The government says that compromise on the quality of medicines will not be tolerated at all. The investigation is still going on. Further action may be taken based on the report.
WHO sought information from the Indian government
On the other hand, WHO has also sought information from the Indian Government in this matter. The government has made it clear that seeking information from WHO is a normal international process. The government said that WHO has not yet blamed the medicine or the company. At present, the report of Rajasthan government is awaited and investigation is going on.
Sources also say that Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, State Drug Controllers of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh had also inspected the company’s plant. During this period, flaws were found in the rules related to Good Manufacturing Practice. On the recommendation of the Joint Inspection Team, the construction licenses of the concerned units were cancelled.
What is the whole matter?
Sources say that this action of the government has happened after the case that came to light in Rajasthan, in which oxytocin injection made by Jackson Laboratories was mentioned in many media reports in the case of death of pregnant women. However, to know the truth, the Center has sought a detailed report from the state government. In fact, between May 5 and May 17, 5 women died after cesarean delivery in the super specialty unit of JK Lone Hospital and Government Medical College, the reason for which is believed to be the use of fake oxytocin injection.
