Big action by FSSAI, notice served to 8 food companies making false claims on labels

June 14, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken major action amid strict monitoring of claims made on food products in the country. The regulatory body has issued notices to eight food companies for using brand names, taglines and product claims that mislead consumers. FSSAI says that some claims and names of these companies are not in accordance with food safety rules and may create confusion among customers.

Taking strict action against brand names and product claims that mislead consumers, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to eight Food Business Operators (FBOs). These include companies like Emami Healthy & Tasty, Health Aid, Troovy, The Healthy Factory, Healthy Master, Healthy Choice, Plan B and Neuherbs.

Notice received on violation of rules

According to FSSAI, some of the brand names, taglines and label claims being used by these companies may violate the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and related regulations. The regulator said such claims could mislead consumers about the true nature of the product.

The name of Emami Healthy & Tasty, the cooking oil unit of Kolkata-based Emami Group, has also come under the scanner. FSSAI believes that the company’s trade name may mislead consumers about the health benefits of the product. At the same time, questions have also been raised on Plan B’s Plant Based Vegan claim. The regulator says the company created the impression that its products were vegan, even though the required approval for the same was not recorded in its FSSAI license.

These companies have received notice

The Healthy Factory’s Zero Maida Whole Wheat Bread and Zero Maida Pizza Base products have also received notice. According to FSSAI, despite the presence of wheat gluten and other ingredients in these products, the claim of zero flour may mislead consumers. Apart from this, the True Vitamin brand name of Neuherbs has also been considered by the regulator as not in accordance with the rules. FSSAI says this terminology is not defined in its standards and may create misconception among customers.

The names and taglines of Troovy, Healthy Master, Healthy Choice and Health Aid have also been described as misleading. FSSAI has clarified that all claims made on food products should be on scientific basis and in accordance with the prescribed rules. The objective of the organization is to provide correct information to consumers and prevent misleading marketing.
