Big action by America in Hormuz amid peace talks, 2 Iranian drones shot down

The ongoing tension in the Middle East is showing no sign of abating. There are continuous talks between America and Iran to end the conflict, but both the countries are adamant on their stance, due to which no solution has been found till now. Meanwhile, America’s Central Command CENTCOM has claimed that it has shot down 2 Iranian one-way attack drones that were threatening international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM said the action was taken to ensure the safety of commercial vessels and international shipping routes in the region. This step of America may affect the ongoing peace talks between the two countries.

CENTCOM gave this information by sharing a post on social media on Sunday. In the post, CENTCOM said that US forces deployed in the Middle East successfully shot down a drone that poses a threat to commercial and international shipping routes in the strategically important waterway.

US Army on alert

“Today, US forces shot down two Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles in the Middle East that were threatening international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM’s statement said. The command further said that the US Army is fully prepared and on high alert to respond to any further threat in the area. “US forces stand ready to continue to defend against Iranian aggression,” the statement said.

Earlier four Iranian drones were shot down

Just the previous day (Saturday, June 6), the US had attacked Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites after intercepting four Iranian attack drones launched towards the crucial Strait of Hormuz, marking the latest escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran. The US military shot down all four unilateral attack drones, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM), which it said were posing a threat to maritime traffic in one of the world’s most important shipping routes.

Meanwhile, Pakistan is continuously making efforts to reduce the increasing tension between America and Iran. Pakistan Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi reached Tehran on Saturday. According to the report, this is Naqvi’s third visit to Iran in the last few weeks. Iran’s Interior Minister Iskander Mominee welcomed Naqvi at Tehran airport. It is being told that during his visit, Naqvi will meet many senior officials including Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. During this, regional security, diplomatic efforts and possible measures to reduce US-Iran tension are expected to be discussed.
