He was ill for a long time and was undergoing treatment for the last few days in a private hospital in Chennai. However, Bharti Raja breathed his last on Wednesday (June 10) morning. He had lost his son Manoj Bharathiraja only last year. The son died of a heart attack at the age of 48.

Apart from Tamil, Bharathiraja has given many wonderful films to the Telugu audience like ‘Seetakoka Chiluka’, ‘Aradhana’, ‘Jamadagni’, ‘Eetaram Ilalu’, ‘Era Gulabilu’, ‘Tik Tik Tik’. He started his film career as an assistant. He was with Kannada film producer Puttanna Kanagal. But later Bharathiraja along with P. Pullaiah, M. Krishnan Nair and A. Worked with Jagannathan. His first film was ’16 Vayathinile’. However, he has been accused that Bharathiraja used to make films only for the village audience.
