Bengal government opened the box for employees, now salary will increase by this much, here is the calculation

June 22, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The Bengal government has opened the box for government employees by increasing the dearness allowance in its budget. West Bengal Finance Minister Dasgupta said in the budget speech that the government will increase Dearness Allowance (DA) by 20 percent, taking the total to 38 percent. Also, retired journalists will get a monthly pension of Rs 5,000, those in jail for political reasons will be given Rs 10,000 per month.

In the budget speech, Bengal Finance Minister Dasgupta promised to fill one lakh government posts, of which 33 percent would be for women. Also announced to increase the MLA fund from Rs 70 lakh to Rs 1 crore. Whereas the West Bengal government will fill 20,000 police posts and 50,000 teaching posts. The monthly salary of Civic Police, Home Guard and Green Police will be increased by Rs 2,000. West Bengal Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta said that our government inherited a loan of Rs 8.15 lakh crore. Our aim is to restore the glorious identity of the state and build a developed Bengal in line with the vision of a developed India.

Here is the salary calculation

Lakhs of government employees are going to get relief from the West Bengal government’s decision to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA). If the basic salary of a Group C Clerk is Rs 25,000, then after the 20% DA increase, his monthly income will increase by about Rs 5,000. After this increase, the basic and DA amount of an employee with a basic pay of Rs 25,000 will become Rs 30,000. If seen on annual basis, the employee will get additional benefit of around Rs 60,000. However, the actual in-hand salary may vary depending on HRA, medical allowance and other allowances.

How much will the salary increase now?

on basic After 20% DA increase
₹20,000 ₹4,000
₹30,000 ₹6,000
₹40,000 ₹8,000
₹50,000 ₹10,000

Now how much more salary will you get every month?

Suppose the basic pay of a government employee is Rs 25000, then his salary calculation will be something like this.

  • Basic Pay: ₹25,000
  • DA increase: 20%
  • Additional amount: ₹5,000 per month
  • Salary including new DA: ₹30,000 + other allowances (HRA, Medical etc.)
  • Meaning, the employee whose basic pay was Rs 25000 will now get a benefit of at least Rs 5000 every month. Apart from this, many types of allowances including HRA, monthly allowance are included. Which will be different from this.

Dasgupta said in his budget speech, we are announcing that in addition to the existing 18 percent dearness allowance, 20 percent dearness allowance will be given. That means the total dearness allowance will be 38 percent. Similarly, pensioners will also get additional dearness allowance.
