
Bharatiya Janata Party has registered a historic victory on Phalta Assembly seat of West Bengal. Expressing happiness over this victory, West Bengal Minister Agnimitra Paul said that this result shows the strong desire of the people for change, development, transparency and accountable governance. He said that the kind of trust and support that the people of Phalta have shown is truly heart touching.
Taking aim at the opposition, Agnimitra Paul said that “Pushpa Raj” style arrogance and intimidation politics may work in films, but it has no place in a democracy. He said that the people of Bengal have given a clear message. People’s mandate, honesty and grassroots connection are what matter most. The people of Phalta have shown this by doing so. The people of Falata have chosen development and accountable governance. He said that the people of Phalta have made it very clear that Bengal now wants progress, peace and better governance.

BJP candidate Debangshu Panda registered victory
BJP has won in Phalta constituency of West Bengal after the election results declared on Sunday. BJP candidate Debangshu Panda won by a margin of over 1,00,000 votes, taking the total to over 1,49,000 votes. CPI(M) candidate Shambhunath Kurmi stood second with 40,000 votes. At the same time, TMC’s Jahangir, who had withdrawn from the election race, remained at the fourth position.
BJP’s total number of seats in Bengal increases to 208
This is the first time in Phalta’s 74-year electoral history that BJP has won. From 1952 to 2006, this constituency was a stronghold of both the Congress and the CPI(M). After 2011, TMC had won this seat three consecutive times. With this victory in Phalta, BJP’s total number of seats in Bengal has increased to 208. In the results declared on May 4, BJP had won 207 seats, while TMC currently has only 80 seats.
