Barapula Phase-3 project ready in Delhi, both banks of Yamuna connected; It will be easy to go from South to East Delhi

June 22, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Delhi Government says that after almost 11 years of long wait, many challenges and ever increasing deadlines, Delhi’s much awaited Barapula Phase-3 project achieved its most important milestone today. With the successful completion of casting of the last deck slab of the project on river Yamuna, the most important structural work of this elevated corridor has been completed. With this, the last link connecting both the banks of Yamuna was also ready and the project has now reached the final stage of completion.

This ambitious project, which started in 2015, was originally supposed to be completed by 2017, but due to land acquisition disputes, various approvals, technical complexities and other administrative reasons, the project was delayed for years. Its cost also increased with time and it became one of the most delayed infrastructure projects of Delhi.

Casting of last slab on Monday

The project achieved a historic milestone with the completion of casting of the last slab on Monday evening. About 175 cubic meters of concrete was used in this final slab. Along with this, about 4.5 lakh cubic meters of concrete has been used in the project so far, which shows its huge scale and engineering capability.

On this occasion, Pravesh Sahib Singh, Minister of Public Works Department (PWD), Government of Delhi, visited the construction site and had dinner with the workers, engineers and employees working on this project for years. He encouraged the workers and described their contribution as the most important basis of this achievement.

Towards fulfillment of an important promise made to the people of Delhi

Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh said that today not only the casting of one slab has been completed, but a decisive step has been taken towards fulfilling an important promise made to the people of Delhi. People were waiting for the completion of this project for the last decade. Today, the joining of both the banks of Yamuna symbolizes the end of that wait.

The Minister said that the present government included Barapula Phase-3 among the priority projects and continuously monitored its progress. After the formation of the government, we gave clear instructions that this project, which was pending for years, should be completed on priority basis. I personally visited the site several times, held regular review meetings and coordinated with all concerned agencies to remove the bottlenecks. The achievement visible today is the result of the collective hard work of the entire team.

Minister appreciated the workers and engineers

Praising the workers and engineers, the Minister said that their dedication and hard work have played the biggest role in taking this project forward.

This achievement belongs to those workers who worked continuously in extreme heat, cold and rain. It belongs to those engineers who found solutions to every technical challenge. And this belongs to those Delhiites who remained patient for years and did not lose hope of the completion of this project.

After the completion of Barapula Phase-3 project, there will be significant improvement in connectivity between East Delhi and South Delhi. Commuters going towards Sarai Kale Khan, AIIMS and South Delhi from Mayur Vihar, Akshardham and surrounding areas will benefit from smoother and signal-free travel. Apart from this, pressure on major traffic routes like NH-24, DND Flyway, Ring Road and Sarai Kale Khan is expected to reduce.

‘The moment of an incomplete dream coming true’

The scene on the banks of the Yamuna on Monday evening was not just a symbol of a construction achievement. The workers who shaped this project for years were having lunch with the minister near the same structure which they have built with their own hands. The minister said that for him it was not just the completion of a slab. This was the moment of realization of 11 years of long wait, tireless hard work and unfulfilled dreams and a new beginning for Delhi.
