Ban on use of smart sunglasses in IPL, BCCI warns of strict action against these people

May 29, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Before the end of IPL 2026, BCCI has issued another rule regarding its T20 league. Under this rule, it has completely banned the use of smart sunglasses for players and match officials in IPL. BCCI’s anti-corruption unit has clearly said that the use of smart sunglasses will also be banned in the PMOA i.e. Players and Match Officials area. Not only this, the board has warned of strict action against those who violate this rule.

Where and why did BCCI ban smart sunglasses?

BCCI has issued an advisory to all the franchises regarding the use of smart sunglasses, in which it said that the use of smart sunglasses can become a threat to the safety and fairness of the match because those goggles are equipped with all the communication facilities like live streaming, video calling, sending and receiving messages through mobile data or Wi-Fi.

BCCI said that smart sunglasses are kept in both categories like audio/video recording devices and communication devices. That is why the use of smart sunglasses has been banned in the players and match officials area.

Now sunglasses will also have to be deposited along with the mobile.

According to BCCI, instructions have been given to all the players and support staff for this. That is, now players and support staff of IPL teams will have to deposit their mobile phones and smart watches as well as smart sunglasses to the Security Liaison Officer while entering the playing area.

Action against those who break the rules, BCCI warns

After banning the use of smart sunglasses in PMOA, the board warned that if anyone violates this instruction and does not deposit his sunglasses, then action will be taken against him and he will be punished under the IPL Code of Conduct.

RR manager was fined

During IPL 2026, the issue of Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder using phone in the dugout during the match had gained prominence. Romi Bhinder was then given a warning and a fine of Rs 1 lakh was imposed on her.

BCCI is strict regarding IPL, has already taken big steps

BCCI has taken many strict steps regarding security during IPL 2026. He had taken this step after several incidents of rule violation came to light. The steps taken by the BCCI include a ban on players going out at night without permission, a ban on having guests in the hotel rooms of players and support staff in view of security concerns and the threat of honey trapping, etc. Now the ban on smart sunglasses has also been added to the same list, which is being considered as another strong step towards strengthening the security of IPL.
