Eid al-Adha 2026: Today the festival of Eid-ul-Azha i.e. Bakrid is being celebrated across the country. This Pakistani festival is celebrated every year on the 10th of the month of Zul-Hijja. This day is considered very important in the religion of Islam. Muslims offer namaz on this day. Donate to the poor and sacrifice an animal (goat, sheep, buffalo, bull or camel). According to Islamic beliefs, sacrifice is made on this day so that the message of humanity and equality can be given to the world. The tradition of sacrifice on Bakrid is related to Hazrat Ibrahim Alaihissalam. According to Islam, making sacrifice is the Sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim. Eid-ul-Azha is celebrated for 3 days. Accordingly, the process of sacrifice also continues for three days including the day of Bakrid.

It is mentioned at many places in the Quran that Allah had shown dreams to Hazrat Ibrahim for three days and through this he had ordered him to sacrifice his most precious thing. This tradition continues for three days, so that all the Hajis and Muslims can complete their worship without any hurry. According to Islamic beliefs, Allah knew that Hazrat Ibrahim loved his son the most. When Hazrat Ibrahim told his son Hazrat Ismail about his dream, his son asked him to follow the orders of Allah and got ready to sacrifice.

When Hazrat Ismail agreed to sacrifice himself at the hands of his father, he was 13-14 years old. It was a big test for Hazrat Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, but he had full faith in his Allah. As soon as he started sacrificing, Allah placed a dumba in place of his son. In this way Dumba was sacrificed in place of Hazrat Ismail and from then onwards this tradition started.
Law of meat and sacrifice
There is a custom among Muslims to divide the sacrificial meat into three equal parts. Those who sacrifice keep a portion. One part is taken out for relatives, friends and neighbors and the other part is taken out for the poor and needy. A certain age is required for every animal’s sacrifice. In this festival, a goat or goat can be sacrificed for at least one year. For sacrifice, the sheep or lamb should be at least 6 months old. The age of buffalo or bull should be at least two years and that of camel should be five years.
