Iran has launched a drone attack on Bahrain. Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry described the attack as a ‘blatant violation of its sovereignty, a serious threat to the security of its citizens and residents, and a flagrant violation of international rules’. Bahrain claimed that Iran launched a separate attack on a ship in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, possibly in response to overnight US airstrikes by Tehran. The attacks in the Persian Gulf show the danger that the Iran-Iran war could once again get out of control, even if Iran and the US have reached an agreement to end the conflict.
In fact, on Thursday, America had launched air strikes in response to the Iranian drone attack on a ship trying to leave Hormuz. Meanwhile, a multinational maritime organization working under the supervision of the US Navy said on Saturday that it will expand a passage near Oman in Hormuz to allow both types of traffic.
Bahrain is a strong critic of Iran
Iran’s targeting of Bahrain was not just a coincidence, but Bahrain has been one of the harshest critics of Iran and the US Navy’s fifth fleet is stationed here. Recently, Bahrain hosted the meeting of foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council, which was attended by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The meeting ended with a demand to stop Iran’s attacks and completely open the Strait of Hormuz.
Many Iranian drones targeted the country
A statement from Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry said that several Iranian drones targeted the country. In this the attack has been described as a grave threat to the safety of citizens and residents. At the same time, Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard said in a statement issued by the state-run IRNA news agency on Saturday that ‘it has targeted several bases of the US Terrorist Army in the region’. However, it did not specify which areas were targeted.
Attack on a tanker in Hormuz
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center of the British Army said that a tanker was attacked in Hormuz on Saturday. The center said that the crew is safe and there is no harm to the environment. No one immediately took responsibility for the attack, but suspicion immediately fell on Iran. Immediately after reports of the attack on the ship, the US Navy-run Joint Maritime Information Center said the route off Oman’s coast was being widened to facilitate both inbound and outbound traffic.
Ships will have to follow Iran’s orders
Earlier, Iran had insisted that ships must follow its orders and warned that it would start charging fees for passage through Hormuz. However, America and Gulf Arab countries have rejected Iran’s demands.
