Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri clarified about the alleged Track-2 dialogue going on between India and Pakistan that there is neither any official participation nor any kind of support or role in these meetings from the Indian government. In response to a question, Misri said that all Indian citizens who are participating in these programs are participating in their individual capacity. His views are his own and should not be considered the official view of the Government of India.
In response to a question on the importance of the Track-2 initiative, the Foreign Secretary said, as far as we are concerned, these meetings have no special importance.
No one officially from India
The Foreign Secretary said that I have seen a report. Pakistan I don’t know why, but in the meeting that is being talked about in Colombo, no one from India is officially involved. Misri said that some retired officers and people from civil society had participated in it. We do not disagree with what he says.
Earlier, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh official Ram Madhav had also rejected the Track-2 meeting. Actually, Ram Madhav was also involved in the meeting which was reported in Colombo. Ram Madhav had said that this issue should not be given unnecessary importance.
Why the discussion of Track-2 meeting with PAK?
Official talks i.e. Track-1 meeting between India and Pakistan are stalled since May 2025. In recent days, it was claimed in a report that the exercise of back channel talks between the two countries is starting. For this, a meeting has been held in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. It was named Track-2.
Sangh officials and India Foundation’s Ram Madhav, former Army Chief M Naravane and former diplomat Ruchi Ghanshyam attended the meeting organized by the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
From Pakistan side, former ISI officer Ali Khan Pataudi, former minister Sherry Rehman and Pakistan Foreign Ministry officer Sajjad Haider Khan were present in the meeting.
