Ujjain News: In the religious city of Madhya Pradesh, Ujjain, a big news has come out from the court of Baba Mahakal, who gives darshan to the devotees by burning ashes every day at 4 am. The figures of property and annual income of the temple have been made public by Shri Mahakaleshwar Management Committee, which are surprising. According to the data, Baba Mahakal currently has a fixed deposit (FD) worth Rs 472 crore, while valuable land worth Rs 90 crore and cash worth Rs 16 crore are deposited in banks. After the grand inauguration of ‘Mahakal Lok’ by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the year 2022, there has been a record increase in the number of devotees coming here, which has also increased the treasury of the temple manifold.
According to the report released by the Managing Committee, a huge amount of about Rs 472 crore is safe in the form of fixed deposits in the Bank of India and United Bank in the name of Mahakaleshwar Temple Committee, from which the temple gets huge interest every year. There is about 90 acres of valuable land in Ujjain and surrounding areas in the name of Baba Mahakal, whose current estimated market value is estimated at around Rs 90 crore. Including the daily expenses and accounts of the temple, there is a cash balance of about Rs 16 crore deposited in various banks.
Bumper surge in donations after formation of Mahakal Lok
After the construction of ‘Shri Mahakal Lok’ corridor in the year 2022, a new history of religious tourism has been created in Ujjain. Lakhs of devotees coming from India and abroad donate huge amounts of gold, silver and other valuables to the temple through online (UPI/Net Banking), cash, money order etc. In the financial year from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026, Mahakaleshwar Temple has earned a total bumper income of Rs 142 crore. If we compare it with last year, then in the year 2024-25 this figure was around Rs 107 crore. This means that in just one year, Baba’s treasury has increased by more than Rs 35 crore.
Laddus Prasad also became a big source of income for the temple
Crores of devotees who come to see Baba Mahakal do not forget to take with them the famous pure ghee ‘Laddu Prasadi’ of Ujjain. There has been a tremendous jump in the sales of Laddu Prasadi, prepared by the temple committee at highly discounted and high quality rates, in the last two years. Devotees are purchasing it in large numbers, due to which Laddu Prasadi counters are also proving to be a main and important help in increasing the total income of the temple.
Expenses increased with income, Rs 11 crore every month on arrangements
Along with the increase in the treasury, the expenses have also increased to make the security, cleanliness and darshan arrangements of Mahakal Temple of international standard. Earlier, due to less staff, the monthly expenditure of the temple was very limited, but now the temple committee is spending about Rs 11 crore every month in controlling the crowd of lakhs that comes every day, VIP security, care of Mahakal folk and operation of state-of-the-art facilities. The immense faith of the devotees and the increasing number of devotees every day clearly shows that in the coming times, there will be an even bigger increase in the glory and wealth of King Baba Mahakal of Avantika city.
