Chanchal Sharma, an Ayurveda doctor in Delhi, says that as the weather changes, our body also changes.

What did the experts say about summer food?

Ayurvedic doctor Chanchal Sharma said that according to Ayurveda, every season brings different changes in the body. Therefore, to ensure good health and maintain energy, Ayurveda recommends that people eat according to the season. During the summer season, our body has to face symptoms like heat, dehydration (lack of water), lethargy and increased ‘Pitta Dosha’. To remain healthy and energetic, we should eat such things which not only provide nutrition but also refresh us.

How should the food be according to the heat?

Expert Chanchal says that due to excessive heat, the body starts dehydrating and starts feeling weakness or lethargy. Therefore, one should always eat only light and easily digestible things. He said that eating heavy food can make you feel more heat inside the body. By eating according to the season, you feel cool throughout the summer and along with this, it improves your digestive power and also increases immunity.

Ayurvedic Tips Eating

eat seasonal fruits

Summer fruits contain more water, hence they protect our body from dehydration. It is best to consume watermelon, melon, mango, pomegranate and coconut water. These fruits hydrate and nourish the body by providing essential nutrients.

Natural Coolants

Ayurveda says that we should not drink canned or artificially made drinks available in the market. Instead of this, drinks made from natural ingredients should be drunk. Lassi, lemon juice, wood apple juice, aam panna, rose water and fennel water are best in keeping us naturally hydrated. By the way, homemade buttermilk (whey) made with roasted cumin seeds and mint is very good for keeping the digestion system healthy in summers.

eat light food

Dr. Chanchal Sharma says that digestive power naturally becomes weak in summer. Therefore, one should eat food which is light i.e. easily digested. In hot weather, one should eat moong dal khichdi and lightly cooked vegetables.

eat ghee but less

Experts say that it is beneficial to consume pure desi ghee in small quantities in summer. It increases our strength and helps in reducing excess body heat.

Apart from this, one should avoid eating spicy, oily food and fast food. Drink less tea and coffee. Do not eat things that contain excess salt and sugar. All these things cause acidity, dehydration and stomach related problems in summer.
