
Asian Gymnastics Championships 2026: A new golden chapter has been added in the history of Indian gymnastics. In the Junior Asian Gymnastics Championships, Indian athletes hoisted the tricolor on the big stage with their unmatched balance and amazing acrobatics. India’s rising gymnasts Harshit Damodaran and Akshat Bajaj brought glory to the country by winning gold and silver medals in this tournament. This is the first time that India has captured both the top-2 positions simultaneously in any event of this championship.
Harshit’s ‘golden’ performance
A very exciting and tough competition was seen between the two Indian players in the final match of the competition, which was played on June 21. Harshit Damodaran displayed amazing concentration and technical accuracy throughout the match. Harshit secured first position with a score of 13.649. During this, Harshit made two excellent vaults in a row, scoring 13.866 points in the first attempt and 13.433 points in the second attempt.
On the other hand, Akshat Bajaj also gave a very strong competition to his teammate. However, he missed the gold medal by a very small margin of points. During this, Akshat Bajaj recorded 13.500 points in the first vault and 13.366 points in the second, due to which he could get the silver medal with an average of 13.433.
Special training in London
Talking about this big achievement, Indian men’s gymnastics team coach Rakesh Patra told PTI, ‘The boys have achieved a huge achievement. He had taken very good training in the National Camp organized in Bhubaneswar a month ago. As part of his preparation, I also took him to London. They are performing well and we hope that India will win a medal in the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
