Demonstration in Datia over not getting ticket
There was an uproar on Friday when Narottam Mishra was not given ticket in the Datia assembly by-election. Supporters of Narottam Mishra came out on the streets and clashed with the police, in which many policemen including SP and SDOP were injured.
BJP on Friday declared former Madhya Pradesh Housing Board chairman Ashutosh Tiwari as its candidate for Datia by-election. This by-election was necessitated due to the cancellation of Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti’s assembly membership after he was found guilty in a fraud case.
This move angered the supporters of Narottam Mishra, because he was considered a strong contender for the candidature and he had also campaigned before the announcement of the by-election.
Angry supporters created ruckus
Since Friday evening, there has been a wave of resignations in the party, with the district president and several other office-bearers resigning. The protest also included blocking the highway and heavy stone pelting, due to which policemen were injured.
Clashes continued between the police and Mishra’s supporters till Saturday morning, however, on Saturday Narottam Mishra broke his silence and appealed to the workers to remain calm. Meanwhile, the party leadership made it clear that the candidate will not be changed. The party has taken this decision after careful consideration.
