
Ashadha Month Rules: Ashadh month has started from today. This month has been dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the protector of the world. Worship of Lord Vishnu in this month is considered especially fruitful. This month of Ashadh will last till Guru Purnima on 29th July. Ashadh is the same month in which Chaturmas begins and Lord Vishnu goes to the underworld in Yoganidra. After the beginning of Chaturmas, auspicious works like marriage, house warming, naming ceremony and Mundan Sanskar are stopped.
The month of Ashadha is considered to be the time to leave worldly pleasures and indulge in bathing, worship, chanting, penance and meditation. This is the fourth month of Sanatan Dharma. Some very strict and important rules have been mentioned in the scriptures regarding the month of Ashadha, following which there is happiness, peace in the house and good health. There is a belief that if the rules are not followed in the month of Ashadha, happiness and prosperity go away from the house.
Strict rules of Ashadh month
Restrictions on auspicious works: From Devshayani Ekadashi of Ashadha month, Lord Vishnu goes into Yoga Nidra in the underworld. According to the scriptures, after this period, auspicious works like marriage, house warming, naming ceremony and Mundan Sanskar are banned for the next four months.
No consumption of green leafy vegetables: It is advised not to consume green leafy vegetables from the month of Ashadha. Due to the onset of monsoon, bacteria and insects start growing on the leaves in this month, due to which there is a risk of stomach diseases.
Avoidance of Tamasic food and alcohol: During the rainy season, a person’s digestive fire slows down, hence in this month it is forbidden to eat tamasic food like meat, liquor, garlic, onion and gum dal. Tamasic food in this month increases physical and mental impurity.
Abandoning laziness: Sleeping till late is prohibited in this month. People who do this have adverse effects on their health. There is Surya Dosha in the horoscope. It is considered mandatory to wake up in Brahma Muhurta in this month.
No wastage of water: Ashadh is a rainy month, hence it is said not to waste water in this month. There is a religious belief that wasting water in this month leads to financial crisis.
