The proposal does not have public support – Owaisi
He also claimed that the proposed law does not enjoy widespread public support and said that the framers of the Indian Constitution never intended to introduce a mandatory Uniform Civil Code, adding, “The Constituent Assembly did not envisage a mandatory UCC.” Expressing concern over inheritance laws, Owaisi argued that some provisions of the proposed code are contrary to Islamic principles related to inheritance and property rights.

She said, “In Islam, no one can disinherit an heir. No one can write a will bequeathing his entire property to one son or disinheriting his daughter. This UCC allows anyone to write a will and refuse to give their daughters their fair share. This is a far cry from a gender justice law.”
