
On the festival of Bakrid, goat markets across the country have become completely buzzing. This time in many big cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Lucknow, the prices of goats have increased by 20 to 40 percent. There is a huge crowd of buyers in the famous markets across the country. The special thing is that this time premium breed goats are being sold according to weight and their price has reached Rs 350 to Rs 550 per kg.
Goats worth lakhs in Mumbai markets
Mumbai’s Deonar Bakra Mandi is the most talked about this time. Here small goats weighing 20 to 25 kg are being sold for Rs 15 thousand to Rs 25 thousand. Whereas the price of medium sized goats weighing 30 to 50 kg has reached 27 thousand to 50 thousand rupees.
Premium goats of Totapari, Beetle and White Kota breeds are being sold for Rs 55 thousand to Rs 1.2 lakh. Whereas the price of special goats weighing more than 100 kg is being said to be Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 3.5 lakh. The foreign breed and special identity of some goats is making them more expensive.
Craze of VIP goats in Delhi
This time a huge crowd of buyers is being seen in Delhi’s Jama Masjid and Ghazipur markets also. Small goats are being sold at Rs 14 thousand to Rs 22 thousand, while the prices of medium sized goats have reached Rs 25 thousand to Rs 45 thousand. Whereas the price of big and premium goats is said to be between Rs 50 thousand to Rs 1.1 lakh. There is also talk in the market of getting offers ranging from Rs 1.3 lakh to Rs 3 lakh for some VIP goats.
Demand increased in Hyderabad and Kolkata also
The price of small goats in Mehdipatnam and Jigar Mandi of Hyderabad ranges from Rs 12 thousand to Rs 20 thousand. Whereas premium breed goats are being sold for Rs 45 thousand to Rs 95 thousand. The price of some heavy, special goats has reached above Rs 2.5 lakh.
The market is also completely hot in Kolkata’s Rajabazar. Here small goats are being sold for Rs 11,000 to Rs 18,000, whereas people are ready to spend more than Rs 2.5 lakh for big and popular goats on social media.
Special goats being sold for lakhs
This time some special goats have become the center of attraction for the people. The price of goats which have marks like moon, religious symbols or special designs on their bodies has reached Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh.
Business reached Rs 400 crore in Lucknow
This time there is expected to be a record business in the goat markets of Lucknow. It is said that goats worth up to Rs 400 crore will be sold in different markets of the city. The temporary markets set up under Dubagga and Khadra bridges have become a big center of business this time. In these two markets alone, business worth more than Rs 60 crore was done within six days. Traders remained busy in buying and selling till late night.
Despite the heat, a huge crowd gathered
Despite the scorching heat, the enthusiasm of buyers in the markets did not diminish. Traders were seen making arrangements for coolers, fans and cold water to protect the goats from the heat. At many places, goats are also being given water mixed with jaggery and syrup.
Big support to rural economy too
The benefits of this big business of Bakrid are not limited to goat traders only. Fodder sellers, transport traders, cattle rearers and local shopkeepers are also earning good income from this. Traders say that the festival of Bakrid is directly linked to the rural economy and it has become a major source of income for thousands of families.
