Paying tribute to national unity and strength, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army on Saturday inaugurated a tall high-mast national flag at Chandanwadi, situated in the beautiful mountains of South Kashmir. This flag holds great significance as Chandanwadi is the official gateway and base camp of the traditional Pahalgam route of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. Thousands of pilgrims, local service providers and tourists pass through this elevated place every day during the main pilgrimage season.
Flying on a huge high-mast pole, this flag is designed to withstand the harsh weather of high altitude areas and remain illuminated even at night. Situated on the difficult path to Amarnath cave temple, this tricolor will be visible from far away.
at the opening ceremony Army Senior officials of the Central Government, local administration, community leaders and visiting pilgrims participated, giving a message of peace and national unity.
Tricolor is a symbol of trust
Speaking at the event, Army representatives said the high-mast flag is a symbol of trust and shows the strong relationship between the local people and the security forces.
This initiative is part of a larger campaign by Chinar Corps under which national symbols are being installed at historically and culturally important places in Jammu and Kashmir.
When the tricolor was hoisted amid the snow-capped Himalayan peaks, the move was welcomed by local people and pilgrims. He described it as an inspiring change in the scene, which enhances the spiritual and patriotic feeling in the entire area.

Speaking on the occasion, a civil society member said, “This event, which is dedicated to the nation, was an army ceremony in which our civil society members and many others gathered to participate. This is a historic moment because this place attracts lakhs of tourists and pilgrims to inculcate in them the spirit of the country and to promote that feeling called nationalism.
