The troubles of former West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee have increased. Madhya Pradesh High Court has lifted the interim stay on Abhishek’s arrest warrant. The court gave this decision while hearing the petition of Abhishek Banerjee.
Even after getting the opportunity, there was no argument from Abhishek’s side, on which the court said that the petitioner is not showing any interest in taking this petition forward. The stay on the execution of arrests issued by the MPMLA Court through the order passed on 12 November 2025 has been ended by the High Court with immediate effect.
What is the whole matter?
During a political meeting held in Kolkata in November 2020, Abhishek Banerjee had abused Kailash Vijayvargiya’s son Akash Vijayvargiya. Akash Vijayvargiya had filed a complaint against this in the MPMLA court of Bhopal. While hearing the case filed by Akash Vijayvargiya, the MPMLA court of Bhopal had issued an arrest warrant against Abhishek.
What was said in the petition?
In the petition filed on behalf of Banerjee, it was said that he is currently an MP, hence there is no possibility of his absconding. While hearing the petition, the bench had stayed the execution of the arrest warrant on November 12, 2025. During the hearing of the petition on Wednesday, no one was present to plead on behalf of the petitioner.
Taking this seriously, the single bench said in its order that it seems that the petitioner has lost interest in pursuing this petition. The single bench dismissed the petition by removing the stay on the arrest warrant and also issued instructions to send a copy of the order to the Bhopal Special Court.
