Another party merges with BJP, IVP with 16 councilors in Delhi painted saffron

July 10, 2026 by Uma Shankar

There was a quiet but big stir in the politics of the national capital Delhi on Friday. The councilors who rebelled against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) about a year and a quarter ago and formed a separate party, Indraprastha Vikas Party (IVP), today merged with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Under the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi BJP State President Harsh Malhotra, 16 councilors including IVP convenor Mukesh Goyal, Hemchand Goyal merged with BJP today.

We will make Delhi corruption free: CM Rekha

On the merger of Indraprastha Vikas Party councilors with BJP, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the BJP government at the Centre, Delhi and Municipal Corporation will give a faster pace to development. We will all work together to make the capital Delhi clean, green and corruption free.

On this occasion, the new President of Delhi BJP Harsh Malhotra said that after being impressed by the policies and development works of Bharatiya Janata Party, IVP decided to join the Lotus and merged the party.

Delhi CM is doing good work: Goyal

On the other hand, while giving information about the merger of his party with BJP, Indraprastha Vikas Party convenor Mukesh Goyal said, “The reason for this was that we all had won the elections of 2022 on the Aam Aadmi Party ticket. Due to this, the Aam Aadmi Party came to power in the Municipal Corporation and was also in the Delhi government. But they kept misleading the councilors, while not even a single rupee was allocated in the budget. Seeing the discrimination against them, the resentment among the councilors kept on increasing. Gone.”

He further said, “By the time Rekha Gupta became the new Chief Minister of Delhi after the assembly elections, many councilors had already joined BJP. We formed our own separate party with 16 members, which got support from the Delhi government. Now all our work has started getting done. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is doing good work for the people of the capital and keeping this in mind, we decided to merge the party with BJP.”
