The Trump administration believes that instead of recognizing Somaliland, efforts should be made to take the whole of Somalia under its control. Trump has criticized Somalia’s government and system on many occasions. Trump calls Somalia a country of dishonest people.
What is the demand for a separate Somaliland?
Somaliland, located near the United Arab Emirates, separated from Somalia in 1991, but it is not yet recognized as a country at the international level. Rebel leaders rule here. Somali, Arabic and English are spoken in this country with a population of 62 lakhs.
Somaliland leaders are in contact with Israel and UAE to separate themselves from Somalia. Israel has given recognition, but UAE has not yet taken any decision on this.
