Senior social worker Anna Hazare has announced to go on an indefinite fast from July 5, 2026, demanding immediate withdrawal of the Right to Information (RTI) rules implemented by the Maharashtra government on June 12, 2026. Anna Hazare says that the government’s new rules weaken the Right to Information Act and are an attack on the basic right of the common citizen to get information.
They allege that till now no concrete or positive response has been received from the government, hence they have decided to stick to their decision of fast. Since Anna is 90 years old, the villagers and workers of Ralegan Siddhi have expressed concern about his health. Keeping this in view, before the start of the fast, all his necessary medical tests are being conducted at Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune, so that his health can be regularly monitored during the fast.
