While talking to Hindustan Times, Dr. Sonal said – This latest film clip where Ananya Pandey is seen doing so called Bharatanatyam, is a reminder for the film makers to learn to respect our traditions. Do not dabble in something about which you have no knowledge or do not want to learn. I have seen in Hollywood films that only trained artists are asked to dance. They don’t ask actors to dance. I have a lot of complaints against Bollywood on this matter.

Further in her talk, Sonal said- Being a Bharatanatyam dancer, I am troubled by this. Nataraja Shiva must be crying on Kailash. Why are they doing this? Have some dignity and respect. Watching Ananya Pandey performing Bharatnatyam, it seemed as if she was distorting this art form and using it as a prop. Bharatanatyam is not a trend. This is a 3000 years old art, which the gurus have learned through hard work and practice. Without proper training you are making fun of it. If you want to include Bharatnatyam scene in your film, then choose an actress who is trained in it.
