People around the world liked America more than China for years. But this year this thinking of people completely changed. This has been revealed in a new survey of Pew Research Center. Now in many countries people consider China better than America. This is a big change and the reason for this is the increased mutual tension between US President Donald Trump and US’s allied countries (Canada, Mexico, European countries).
People of 25 out of 36 countries included in the survey are now liking China more than America. These include America’s neighboring countries Canada and Mexico. There are only 6 countries left in the world where people like America more than China. If we talk about the two leaders, then people of 22 out of 36 countries have more trust in Chinese President Xi Jinping than Donald Trump.
America’s magic is broken!
Those who dislike Trump include Canada, Mexico as well as big European powers like France, Germany and Britain. However, there are people in many countries who have very little trust in both these leaders. This survey was conducted between February and May, at the same time America and Israel waged war against Iran. For this new survey, Pew Research Center asked questions to more than 42,000 people in 35 countries, the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The margin of error in each country ranged from 2.3% to 5.5%.
This happened for the first time in 20 years
Pew Research Center has been surveying people’s opinions around the world for the last 20 years. This is the first time that people are considering China better than America. This was said by Laura Silver, assistant director of Pew’s Global Opinion Survey. He said that earlier sometimes people’s opinion towards China and America was almost the same, but such a good opinion towards China has never been seen before.
Why did people’s trust in Trump decrease?
Laura Silver said that this change has happened for two main reasons. The Corona epidemic has now become a past memory and bitterness towards America has increased in the world. He said that after the war started, people started feeling that America was not helping in maintaining peace and stability. Also, people’s trust in Donald Trump has decreased. The world is not liking many of America’s recent activities. Apart from the memories of the pandemic being blurred, China has also benefited from comparisons with America.
Silver further said that some of Trump’s actions and statements have also tarnished his image. Such as the demand to take control of Greenland, military action to capture Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and America’s way of handling the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. Due to all this, people’s support towards Trump has reduced in many countries. He said that China is being considered a more reliable partner in many areas than America. People feel that China can contribute better than America in maintaining global peace and stability.
What did US-China say on the survey?
White House spokeswoman Olivia Wells said that President Trump has done more for global stability than anyone else. He said that President Trump is the leader of the free world. Because of his courageous leadership, America is stronger than ever. In response, the Chinese Embassy in Washington said that this survey shows that China’s governance and development progress is being widely appreciated around the world.
